Westport, Washington

"Westport is the best port!".

It didn't take long for us to hear those words when we rolled into Westport, WA.

We had a chance to catch up with Westport local, Mike Coverdale, and he shared a ton of great tips on all of the fun things to do and see when you come to visit Westport (thanks Mike!).  Sit back, relax, and imagine your toes in the sand as you listen to this week's episode.

Start on Westhaven Drive, grab a bite at one of the delicious eateries and then mosey over to the marina where you'll find row after row of boats and fishing trawlers getting ready to haul in the catch of the day.  If you love seafood, it doesn't get more fresh than purchasing straight from the fishermen (and gals!) right at the marina.  Word has it that fresh albacore tuna steaks on the grill are a must-have item for the summer menu.

Before leaving Westhaven Drive, don't forget to stop in at the Maritime Museum located in the historic Coast Guard station building.  You won't believe your eyes when you see the whale skeletons on display!

After visiting the marina and museum, it's just a short stroll to the ocean.  You'll hear the waves before you see them.  Be sure to check out the Westport Observation Tower for a fantastic 360 degree view.  From the tower, it's a quick hop over to the Westport Light Trail (also known to the locals as "The Dunes Trail").  This is a paved path of approx. two and a half miles along a scenic beach route to the Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Washington State standing at an impressive 107 feet tall.  If you're looking to burn a few extra calories, make your way to the top for some more spectacular photos for a small fee.

Whether you're looking for a sleepy little get-away under the cloak of a storm sweeping in from the Pacific Ocean or you're a weekend swash-buckling pirate in town for Pirate Daze, Westport is a place that all ages will enjoy. Oh, and don't forget the surfing.  No need to wait until you can go to Hawaii, go surfing in Westport this weekend.

If you visit Westport, be sure to drop us a line and tell us all about your adventure.  We'd love to hear from you!
